Open the live map of HaarlemHaarlem lies close enough to Amsterdam for a daily commute, and that shapes the network here. From the station Connexxion runs the R-net services that use segregated busways to reach Schiphol, Amsterdam Zuid and Bijlmer ArenA, alongside a city network towards Schalkwijk, Delftplein and Spaarnwoude. Everything Connexxion operates publishes live positions, so those buses slide across the OVatlas map as markers.
Two rail directions meet here. The Oude Lijn between Amsterdam and The Hague passes through the station, carrying intercities and sprinters south past Leiden and Heemstede-Aerdenhout. Branching off it is the short line to Overveen and Zandvoort aan Zee, which fills up on warm days. At the station the map tells you which series leaves first and how far behind it is running.
The coast is never far off, and the routes towards IJmuiden, Velsen and Zandvoort show it. The bus to IJmuiden connects with the ferry port, while the coast bus links Zandvoort to Amsterdam via the Elandsgracht. In season those runs swell considerably, and because OVatlas shows per stop what is genuinely inbound, you notice such a build-up early rather than on the platform.
R-net is the brand for high-quality bus and rail links across the Randstad, recognisable by the red and grey vehicles and the high frequency. Around Haarlem, Connexxion runs the R-net routes to Schiphol, Amsterdam Zuid and Bijlmer ArenA. They appear on the map under their ordinary line numbers.
