Open the live map of SchipholSchiphol is not a city, but it is one of the busiest transport interchanges in the country. The railway station sits beneath the terminal, where intercities and sprinters from every direction converge: The Hague, Leiden, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Amsterdam, Almere and beyond to Groningen, Enschede and Maastricht. Above ground the buses leave from Schiphol Plaza. NS trains and the Connexxion, Qbuzz and Arriva buses cross the OVatlas map as moving markers; GVB line 369 to Sloterdijk gives you departure times per stop but no position at all.
The bus network comes in three kinds. The R-net link along the Zuidtangent runs from Haarlem via the airport to Amstelveen and Bijlmer ArenA, the Airport Express takes the A4 into central Amsterdam, and regional routes serve Hoofddorp, Nieuw-Vennep, Alphen aan den Rijn and Sloterdijk. On the map they appear interleaved, each under its own line number. Departure boards on the map list them together with the trains below.
On top of that the airport runs its own shuttle network between the terminal, the Schiphol-Noord interchange, the cargo areas and the long-stay car parks. Those runs publish data like any other line, so they are simply visible on the map. For passengers on an early flight the night loop via Leiden and The Hague matters most; the station shows what is leaving at that moment.
The station sits directly beneath the terminal, inside Schiphol Plaza, and trains to Amsterdam Centraal and Zuid run throughout the day. Open the station on OVatlas to see which series leaves first and how late it is running.
They do. Schiphol is on the night loop Amsterdam – Schiphol – Leiden – The Hague – Rotterdam, and night buses run towards Amsterdam as well. What is genuinely leaving right now shows at the station on the map.
Among them the R-net route to Haarlem and Bijlmer ArenA, the Airport Express to Elandsgracht, and services to Amstelveen, Amsterdam Zuid, Sloterdijk, Hoofddorp and Alphen aan den Rijn.
