Open the live map of LeidenAfter Utrecht and Amsterdam, Leiden Centraal is among the busiest stations in the country, because three rail directions meet here: the Oude Lijn to Amsterdam and The Hague, the line via Alphen aan den Rijn to Utrecht, and the branch towards Schiphol. North-west of the station lies the Bio Science Park, which generates a large share of the daily passenger traffic. Every train appears live on OVatlas.
The bus network is run by Qbuzz, with R-net as its high-quality tier. Those routes head west to Katwijk and Noordwijk, north through the bulb fields to Lisse and Haarlem, and east towards Zoetermeer. EBS additionally runs the regional bus along the old road to Wassenaar and The Hague. On the map, city bus, regional bus and R-net sit side by side with the same live departure times.
The city itself is compact and largely walkable, so transport mainly serves the edges: Leiderdorp with its hospital, Voorschoten, Oegstgeest and the districts around Lammenschans station. For the coast and the bulb region the bus is the only direct option. During beach season those runs fill up and slip behind, which makes the actual departure at the stop more useful than the timetable.
The park lies immediately north-west of Leiden Centraal, within walking distance of the station exit on that side, and is served by city buses as well. Open the stop on OVatlas to see which line is due in first.
R-net is the brand for high-quality bus links across the Randstad. Around Leiden, Qbuzz runs those routes to Noordwijk, Katwijk, Zoetermeer and Haarlem. You recognise them on the map by their line number, and they appear just as live as the city buses.
The train along the Schiphollijn is quickest. A regional bus also runs to the airport via Hoofddorp, which helps when the railway is disrupted. OVatlas lists both options side by side with their current departure times.
Yes. The R-net routes from Leiden Centraal carry on to Katwijk aan Zee and Noordwijk, with ESA Estec as one of the termini. They fill up during beach season; the map shows the real departure times stop by stop.
