Open the live map of RotterdamThe metro is the backbone of Rotterdam: five lines, lettered A to E, tie Centraal, Beurs, Zuidplein and Alexander together. Line E continues as RandstadRail all the way to Den Haag Centraal, while line B follows a former railway alignment out to the beach at Hoek van Holland. Beneath that sits a tram network covering the districts inside the ring road and a bus network converging on Zuidplein and Centraal. RET publishes live positions, so its metros, trams and buses really do move on OVatlas.
Crossing the Maas is the recurring theme of the timetable here. Metro lines D and E dive under the river between Beurs and Wilhelminaplein, tram 5 runs from Rotterdam Centraal out to Carnisselande in Barendrecht, and bus 44 connects Zuidplein straight to the main station. On the eastern side, Kralingse Zoom metro station feeds the shuttle buses towards the Rivium and Capelle aan den IJssel. Open a vehicle for its complete run with intermediate stops, or tap a stop for the next departures.
Rotterdam Centraal is the rail hub for the whole region: intercities to Utrecht, The Hague, Breda and Brussels leave from here, alongside the sprinters towards Dordrecht and Schiedam. As well as what is running, OVatlas shows what is going wrong, because disruptions and engineering work are listed at the stops they affect. From Zuidplein, EBS, Qbuzz and Transdev regional buses carry on into the Hoeksche Waard, Goeree-Overflakkee and the Drechtsteden, and the map follows them far beyond the city limits.
That varies by line and by day of the week. OVatlas promises no fixed closing time and shows the actual departures instead: open a metro station on the map and you will see straight away whether anything is still leaving, and when.
You can. Metro line B follows the alignment of the old Hoekse Lijn railway from Nesselande right through to Hoek van Holland Strand, a short walk from the dunes. OVatlas tracks those metros live across the entire route, current delay included.
RET runs the metro, the trams and the city buses, NS runs the trains at Rotterdam Centraal, and regional buses from EBS, Qbuzz, Connexxion and Transdev leave from Zuidplein and Kralingse Zoom. All of them publish live positions, so you see them move.
Not every run broadcasts a position. With broken equipment or a replacement vehicle the national feed carries only departure times, so the run shows at the stop but not as a marker on the map. What the feeds withhold, OVatlas cannot display.
