Open the live map of UtrechtUtrecht Centraal is the busiest station in the Netherlands and that shapes the whole network around it. Almost every intercity series in the country touches Utrecht, and the bus station on the Jaarbeurs side is where regional services to Wageningen, Gouda, Woerden and Wijk bij Duurstede begin. The light-rail platforms sit on the city-centre side. U-OV, Qbuzz and NS all publish live positions, so bus, tram and train appear on OVatlas as markers carrying their current delay.
Light rail forms the backbone of the region. Line 22 runs as the Uithoflijn from the station to the Utrecht Science Park, home to the UMC and the university; lines 20 and 21 split south of the city towards Nieuwegein-Zuid and IJsselstein-Zuid. Leidsche Rijn and Vleuten hang off the network on city bus routes, and Vaartsche Rijn is the sprinter-to-tram interchange on the southern edge of the old town.
Park-and-ride sites ring the city at Westraven, Papendorp and Science Park, each with a direct link into the centre. There is. The Uithoflijn, light-rail line 22, runs from Utrecht Centraal on its own alignment to P+R Science Park, calling at UMC Utrecht and the university buildings on the way. Lines 20 and 21 continue from the same terminus to Nieuwegein and IJsselstein.
The overnight offer is limited and varies by day of the week. OVatlas makes no claim about a fixed night service and gives you the next departure per stop instead, so you can see at once whether a bus is still due after the last train.
U-OV runs the city and regional services in the Utrecht region, light rail included. The trains belong to NS, and at Utrecht Centraal the Qbuzz regional lines from the Alblasserwaard join them. All three publish live vehicle positions.
